Renewing Your Auto Insurance Just Got Easier
Renewing your auto insurance doesn’t have to mean having to take a day off work or waiting in line at a branch. Thanks to recent changes from ICBC, it’s now easier than ever to renew your policy. And this is what it means for Waypoint Insurance customers.
What Changed?
Until recently, clients were required to provide written consent by email before agents could share details about their policy. While this step was meant to protect privacy and comply with regulatory requirements, it often caused delays in the renewal process.
ICBC now allows verbal consent to be collected over the phone. Since all Waypoint Insurance calls are recorded, this consent can be documented right away. This means you no longer need to wait for email confirmation before moving forward with a renewal—everything can now be handled in a single, seamless conversation.
Why This Matters for You
This change significantly improves the ease of renewing. “Our clients say the biggest benefit is convenience,” says Paula Manhas, Manager of Insurance Operations at Waypoint. “Now, you can renew from home or even on your lunch break at work. You no longer have to rush to a branch or worry about limited hours,” she goes on to say.
Another key advantage is the time you’ll save. Without the extra email step, your renewal can be completed in just one call. For busy families, seniors, or anyone who wants to avoid an extra errand, this makes the process much easier.
Flexibility is also a major benefit. Phone renewals are available Monday through Saturday, with extended weekday hours into the evening. On Sundays, assistance is available through select branch locations—so no matter how full your week is, you’ll have options that fit your schedule.
And while most people prefer the electronic option, there are still alternatives for those who need them. Waypoint can send out hard copies by mail or, in special cases, arrange deliveries if someone is in a position where they face a challenge.
When You Still Need to Visit in Person
Although most renewals can now be handled remotely, some transactions still require in-person service. If you are registering a new vehicle, transferring ownership, or cancelling a policy, you will need to provide original identification at a branch. This is to ensure everything remains secure and compliant with applicable regulations.
What You’ll Need for Your Renewal
To make the process quick and easy, clients should have their driver’s license number and date of birth ready. It also helps to know the make and model of the vehicle being insured. For privacy and security, agents will ask a few additional questions, such as confirming an address, to ensure they are speaking with the correct person.
“We understand that insurance can be complex, especially when English is not a client’s first language,” Paula states. “That’s why the contact center has team members who can assist in many languages, including Mandarin, Cantonese, Punjabi, Hindi, Farsi, Korean, Spanish, and others. If a client is struggling to explain their needs, another team member can step in to ensure the process remains clear and stress-free,” she goes on to say.
Supporting You From Start To Finish
At the end of the day, insurance should provide peace of mind, not frustration. With ICBC’s recent updates, renewals can now be completed in a seamless interaction, from verbal consent to payment to receiving documents electronically or by mail. Waypoint’s contact center handles thousands of renewals each month, and the focus remains the same: providing a process that is simple, flexible, and client-centered.
