Waypoint Insurance was founded over 150 years ago on Vancouver Island when the BC Land & Insurance Group recorded it’s first transaction in the Comox Valley. Over the decades several small insurance groups were lead by a variety of owners , including Fred Bossom, Bent Harder, P.Anderton & Company and Hickey & Thwaites. Eventually, these insurance companies came together to be called Vancouver Island Insurancecentres.
In 2016, Vancouver Island Insurancecentres had expanded to the mainland, which lead to the rebrand of Waypoint Insurance, meaning ‘A Stop Along The Way’. A waypoint is a navigational marker, a stopping place on a journey – and that is what we are – a stopping place to help you embrace all of life’s possibilities.
Waypoint Insurance continued to grow on the Lower Mainland, opening branches in North Vancouver, Burnaby, Kitsilano, Maple Ridge and Langley.
Over the past 5 years, Waypoint Insurance has strategically expanded to one of the largest insurance brokerages across British Columbia, focused in both Personal and Commercial Insurance. Waypoint has 19 branches and more than 250 employees across Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland.
Waypoint is proud to offer the strength and market capacity of a large brokerage with the service and attention of a boutique firm.
Waypoint is a proud partner of the Navacord group, a leading insurance and risk management brokerage firm dedicated to providing expert solutions to businesses across Canada.
At Navacord, entrepreneurship is in our DNA. Driven to grow their businesses and leverage scale without losing their identities to larger firms, industry leaders Jones DesLauriers Insurance Management Inc. and Lloyd Sadd Insurance Brokers, a third-generation family business, joined forces in 2014. The two established brands, with a proven track record for successful entrepreneurial growth and profitability, created Navacord to offer a unique ownership model and value proposition that benefits both clients and partners by combining a boutique experience with the backing and stability of a national firm.
This entrepreneurial spirit challenges the active M&A environment that has been changing the insurance landscape. Many small brokers are negatively impacted by acquisitions from large firms that strip them of their identity and local culture. Navacord preserves the independence of its partners, and builds on the deeply rooted, long-standing business relationships of its top experts and trusted advisors who are making a difference in the communities they serve.
Now one of the largest Canadian commercial insurance brokerages, with 90+ shareholders and growing, Navacord continues to aggressively pursue a forward-thinking approach to further enhance its sector expertise and help ensure clients’ success.
