Established in 2021, the Navacord BC Indigenous Scholarship reflects our organization’s commitment to Truth and Reconciliation and to recognizing and commemorating the legacy of residential schools in Canada. The scholarship was created to support Indigenous students in pursuing post-secondary education by helping reduce financial barriers and expanding access to opportunity. Through this initiative, we aim to contribute in a meaningful way to educational empowerment and long-term community strength.

Awards Criteria:

  • Awards Category: Post-Secondary
  • Deadlines: August 1 ( Annually)

  • Program of Study: All programs eligible; preference will be given to those pursuing programs with potential to lead to a career in insurance.

  • Level of Study: Degree, diploma, certificate or technical and trade programs
  • Indigenous Affiliation: Any

  • Value: $2,000

General Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • Be a B.C. resident
  • Self-declaring First Nations, Métis, or Inuit applicant

  • Must be accepted into a post-secondary degree program and provide documentation of acceptance.

Required Documents for Application:

  1. Unofficial transcripts from your current (or most recent) educational institution. If awarded; no funds will be disbursed until official transcripts have been received.
  2. Acceptance Letter and proof of enrolment of Post-Secondary School.
  3. One Letter of Recommendation outlining the following: Please include contact information.
    • How long have you known the applicant and in what capacity?
    • What skills or abilities does the applicant have that will support him/her in completing a degree?
    • How is the applicant apart of their community?
    • What other information about the applicant should be taken into consideration?
  4. Essay questions to be filled out in application. Maximum of 250 words per answer:
    • Please describe your post-secondary plans, including your intended area of study.
    • Please provide information about your academic achievement and commitment to service in your school and community.
    • Describe your personal and education backgrounds.
    • Please describe your plans for funding your post-secondary education.
    • Tell us why you should be chosen to receive the Navacord Indigenous Scholarship and what makes you stand out from your peers?
    • Please tell us anything else you would like us to know about you in consideration of your application.
