Director, Accounting

POSITION OVERVIEW

The successful candidate will lead the company’s annual planning cycle, financial and management reporting. This role will include regular interaction across the company, ranging from the Executive Team to junior staff. Experience using Microsoft Excel to summarize and identify financial opportunities within large data sets is integral to this role.

This role will form part of the Accounting leadership team, alongside the VP, Finance and Controller, and will be expected to coach and mentor junior staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead company-wide financial reporting, covering multiple reporting entities.
  • Lead management reporting, with a specific focus on expanding financial insight and Microsoft PowerBi dashboard implementation
  • Lead company-wide annual planning cycle
  • Support month-end reporting by taking on reporting tasks and providing operating results and variance analysis
  • Drive additional EBITDA & business value with business stakeholders
  • Directly manage 1-3 Accounting staff and mentor other indirect Accounting team members
  • Contribute to a positive team culture by leading team-building initiatives
  • Act as backup for critical tasks
  • Other tasks as assigned by VP, Finance

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 5-years experience in a Senior Financial Analysis or Accounting Role
  • Previous experience managing direct reports
  • CPA Accounting designation is required
  • Experience synthesizing complex financial data into actionable information
  • Regular use of visual data representation, including creating financial dashboards (currently the company uses Microsoft PowerBI)
  • Building and maintaining relationships comes natural to you
  • Strong attention to detail with a proven ability to highlight inefficiencies and recommend process improvements.
  • You have strong verbal and written communication skills, including experience having difficult conversations.
  • Take initiative to identify and address issues or opportunities, solve problems and address conflict
  • Experience presenting to Senior Management
  • You enjoy being part of a team with a mix of face to face and virtual interaction
  • Experience using Applied Epic system and/or ability to quickly learn new management/accounting systems
  • Proven ability to work efficiently in Microsoft Excel with Pivot Tables and other formulas (VLOOKUP, SUMIF)
